Members are asked to kindly bring a book for a child age 3 months to 5 years old. Books will be donated to the ROAR program. (Reach Out And Read.) Here are a few suggestions. There are more in the link below.

BOOK SELECTION
The Association of Faculty and Friends (AFF) of Penn State Health, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine will hold a Holiday Tea. Please see the invitation card (coming soon) for location and details.
The Penn State Department of Family and Community Medicine has been able to provide free books to children (*ages 3 months to 5 years) at their Well Child Visits since 2016 through the Reach Out and Read program (ROAR), in part due to the generosity of the Association of Faculty and Friends.
In each of our clinics (in the Hershey and State College areas) all children are provided books, which help them build home libraries and encourage reading as a family. There is a great deal of research supporting how the ROAR benefits children and families, including that families are 2.5 times more likely to enjoy reading together or to have books in the home and children’s language development is improved by 3-6 months. We appreciate all donations of new books written for these *age ranges.

Our medical residents are enriched by this program as well, as these books provide an opportunity for open dialogue about growth and development with patient families.
